In 2009, the Sydney Seafood School celebrated its 20th birthday with a stunning facelift
International renown designer Michael McCann has created a textural masterpiece with the refurbishment, complete with Fisher & Paykel state-of-the art appliances.
McCann has been responsible for some of the most outstanding and original restaurant and kitchen designs in Australia in recent years and the new look Sydney Seafood School is certainly broad on eye-appeal!
McCann's inspiration features a feast of textures: from the stunning sandstone sculptures of award-winning artist Michael Purdy, through the Icelandic fish leather lining the auditorium, to the wild blackboard mural of artist Joy Godley on the hands-on kitchen walls. Rich oak wood paneling, an aubergine-hued granite bench top, sleek stainless steel and lots of glass complete the refurbishment.
‘After 20 years teaching Sydney-siders and international visitors to cook and enjoy Australian seafood it was time to modernise our kitchens and bring the school into the 21st century,’ said Roberta Muir, Sydney Seafood School, Manager. ‘We were looking for an innovative and forward thinking kitchen appliance designer whose appliances will inspire our students to love cooking seafood.’
The demonstration and practical kitchens at Sydney Seafood School showcase the award winning Izona CoolDrawers, CookSurfaces and VentSurfaces, as well as Fisher & Paykel’s pyrolytic ovens, induction cooktops and flat door refrigeration.
‘Fisher & Paykel and Izona in particular were clear winners in the selection process ahead of a number of European brands as the range represents an entire new way of thinking about kitchen design and functionality. It is an ideal choice for the school,’ said Ms Muir.
